UNFORGETTABLE EXPERIENCES DURING COMMUNITY SERVICE IN GANGGANG PANJANG VILLAGE, TANGGULANGIN, SIDOARJO

Real Work Experience (RWE) is a valuable activity for students. During RWE, students get the chance to contribute to the community directly, understand social issues better, and develop practical skills that are useful not only in academics but also in daily life.

Understanding Real Work Experience

Real Work Experience is a program where students apply what they've learned in real-life situations. During RWE, students go to areas that need help, like villages or remote places. There, they work together with locals to identify main problems and come up with suitable solutions.

My Story During RWE in Ganggang Panjang Village, Tanggulangin, Sidoarjo

I'm Michael Arthur Limantara, a student from Narotama University Surabaya. I had the opportunity to take part in the RWE program in Ganggang Panjang Village, Tanggulangin, Sidoarjo. From day one, the friendly atmosphere from the villagers made me feel welcomed. We collaborated with locals to design activities that could benefit their community.

One of the most impressive experiences was when we were involved in a cyber security awareness program for Ganggang Panjang Village. We organized interactive and fun sessions that not only increased awareness about online safety but also encouraged wise use of social media. Seeing their smiles every day boosted our motivation.

Additionally, we organized celebrations and competitions to commemorate Indonesia's Independence Day on August 17th in Ganggang Panjang Village. Through these events, our bond with the community grew stronger. Witnessing their enthusiasm reminded us about the importance of teamwork and sharing happiness.

During RWE, we also took part in various events organized by the village, such as a health walk and a traditional game called 'panjat pinang'. The health walk wasn't just about exercising; it was also a way to strengthen our connection with the local people. With a sense of togetherness, we walked through village paths, enjoyed the fresh air, and shared laughter and stories.

One of the highlights of RWE was the 'panjat pinang' competition. This event tested not only our courage and physical strength but also our teamwork and determination to reach a common goal. When the competition started, villagers gathered around the tall pole with excitement, while participants eagerly tried to climb and grab the prizes hung at the top. This competition showcased the unity of the community, as they helped each other reach the goal.

Overcoming Challenges and Lessons Learned

Of course, our RWE journey wasn't without challenges. Limited resources and the busy schedule of the villagers were some hurdles we faced. However, these challenges made our experience even more valuable. We learned to adapt, think creatively to solve problems, and appreciate the diversity of activities in Ganggang Panjang Village.

One of the main lessons I learned from RWE was the importance of interacting with the community. We needed to truly connect and listen to the needs and aspirations of the locals to provide relevant and sustainable solutions. Additionally, the ability to work in a team and respect each team member's role became a valuable skill.

Everlasting Memories from RWE in Ganggang Panjang Village, Tanggulangin, Sidoarjo

RWE didn't just leave beautiful memories; it also equipped us with skills and a deeper understanding of broader social realities. For many students, RWE becomes a turning point in their academic journey. It changes perspectives, strengthens the spirit of service, and raises awareness about social responsibilities. Like my experience, every student who undergoes RWE brings back more than just field notes or final reports. They carry experiences that shape their character, broaden their horizons, and radiate inspiration for positive changes in the world.
